INTRODUCTION: |
The Environmental stress cracking tester for cables is designed to test for cracking of polyethylene insula- tion or sheath of electric cables due to enviromental stresses on them. It apparatus consists of the following parts : |

- A cutting die made of hardened and ground high carbon, high chrome die steel to cut test specimen of specified size.
- A nicking jig and blade for making notch of specified size in the test specimens.
- A brass specimen holder of specified shape & size.
- A hard glass tube of 32 mm diameter and 200 mm lenght.
- A bending clamp assembly for bending ten test specimens at a time, and
- A transfer tool for transferring the bent test specimen to the specimen holder. The components of jig, clamp, and tools are made of mild steel and are bright chrome plated to give them a corrosion resistant finish.The jig blade is made of High speed steel.

Size of test specimen : 40 x 12.5 mm Size of notch : 20 mm wide, 0.5 to 0.6 mm deep Specimen holder : 165 mm long, to hold ten test specimens simultaneously. Glass tube : Hard glass tube 32 mm diameter x 200 mm length.
